I have a request. It’s a simple request, nothing too difficult to understand or do. Can we please stop using the term “crush it” to refer to a job well done? Please? PLEASE!
I hate the phrase “crush it” when referencing a job well done. Why? Because it takes no excellence, and no skill to crush something, just a lot of weight, just a lot of force. Social Media isn’t about force, it’s about honesty, realism, transparency, and finesse.
Besides that, when something gets crushed, it isn’t usable. It’s destroyed. By definition, it’s destroyed. Why would you want to represent yourself as someone who destroyed your client’s work.
I know that people use the term to express what a great accomplishment they have achieved, and I totally get the whole “slacker vibe” aspect of using terminology in a way that is contrary to its actual definition, but sometimes it’s just stupid.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I understand that it’s never a good idea to complain without offering some kind of solution or alternative, so I have come up with some alternatives that I would like to suggest for replacing “crush it”:
- Contriturate it
- Squish it
- Triturate it
- Comminute it
- Wrinkle it
- Crease it
- Strangle it
- Squelch it
- Overpower it
- Shame it
- Mortify it
So that’s what I’m thinking should replace the silliness that is “crush it”. What do you think?
